Here’s what you can expect as a single mom:
You will have a unique relationship with your kids. You will share more of yourself with them.
You will have one income. You will make it work and learn to be discerning with how you spend your money. Your values will be revealed to you.
You will have control over your home. This means you can decide how much housework you do, how much sleep you will get, and how much leisure time you will give yourself.
You will learn your priorities, and that you must come first.
You will confront all your issues. There is a naked quality to single motherhood – get comfortable with it.
You will get VERY good at getting things done and being decisive. You will be able to understand the critical path of any problem to be solved. This will serve you well in all areas of your life.
You will not have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.
You will either gain a lot of weight or lose too much because of stress.
You will cry a lot because it will feel overwhelming. It’s cathartic.
You will want someone to help you. You will learn that God is helping you through others. It’s subtle at times, so pay attention.
You will want to murder your ex, but you will choose not to.
You will never get used to having the kids go away. You will study and learn so much as you seek to protect and support them as individuals. You will share this knowledge with others.
You will experience extreme emotional pain. This will cause you to have a deeper level of understanding and empathy for the human condition.
You may not feel like you are enough, but then you will see a license plate that literally says “UR ANUF” (true story).
You will live happily ever after because you will learn to choose to live happily ever after.
